Ways To Help

We need foster homes for cats and orphan kittens.

If you live in New York City and want to make a difference in the life of a feline creature, we ask you to consider opening your heart and home to care for some of our orphan kittens. Please read our adoption policy as the guidelines are the same for foster homes.

There is a great need for foster homes that can bottle feed. If you have experience in this area and are available to do so please let us know.

Kittens and cats are shown on the weekends. You will need to either drop them off at our adoption location site or have them available for pickup.

Fostering requires:

• A safe –kittyproof- environment

• Resources to provide them with the proper food (Raw Natures Variety, Innova, EVO) and litter (World’s Best Cat Litter, Swheat or Hartz Mountain Clay Litter)

• Lots of love and time to socialize/play with the kittens. The more attention you can lavish on them, the more socialized they become and the easier it is to find them permanent homes

• In case you do not have a cat, rabbit or dog of a suitable age at home, we ask you to take more than one kitten, it is imperative for a kitten to have a playmate. Kittens learn a great deal from one another. They set limits as to how hard they can bite while playing together and keep each other occupied and out of mischief

To be aware of while fostering:

• While cat/kittens are in your care, they are the responsibility of Kitten Little Rescue. Should visitors, friends, etc. be interested in adopting a cat/kitten(s) while they are in your home, they must go through the adoption procedure and interview with a Kitten Little representative

• If you have other animals at home, it is normal that there is an adjustment period. Your pets are suddenly confronted with new creatures to share their space with. This might lead to hissing, spitting and occasional slapping. Though this might be a little upsetting to witness, it usually is of a temporary nature

• If you've never had a chance to experience living with and caring for a kitten, you do not know how very rewarding it is. Kittens are said to be a perfection of creation, and so it is. However, there is also the practical side of things, like feeding, cleaning and socializing, just as it goes for children. This requires discipline and patience, but you will most probably realize like us that it is so worth it…
